Enhanced Carolina Classics at the Capital Car Show to Draw Thousands to Downtown Raleigh
New Block Party, Free Cruise-In, More Entertainment Planned

RALEIGH, NC, May 28, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Building upon the success of the first-ever Carolina Classics at the Capital last year, the 2011 edition of this classic car show will rev up the excitement with new activities and features on historic Fayetteville Street and inside the Raleigh Convention Center from Aug. 19 through Aug. 21.

New for 2011 are a sneak peak/media day on Friday, Aug. 19, and a free cruise-in that night. Car clubs, or just groups of friends with ten or more cars, can reserve blocks of car exhibition spaces on the street to throw their very own block party. Friday "sneak peak" admission to the Convention Center will be half price. The 2011 edition of Carolina Classics at the Capital will also feature 14 hours of live musical entertainment and a KidsZone with inflatable attractions. All outdoor activities are free to the public.

The festivities will culminate with an awards ceremony on Sunday, Aug. 21, at 2 p.m. on the Fayetteville Street Stage with awards for Top 50, Sweet 16, Best of Show in numerous categories, and the Sir Walter Raleigh Cup. Judging will be conducted by Southern Classic Cars of Wake Forest, N.C.

Last year's show attracted an estimated 25,000 visitors to Fayetteville Street, including 7,000 who paid to step inside the Raleigh Convention Center to visit more than 60 vendor booths and display. Top vendors already committed this year include Steele Products, Northern Hydraulics, Hubbard's Impala Parts, Hamlett's Chevy Parts and the National Hot Rod Association (doing inspections).

"We received tremendous feedback from vendors, exhibitors and attendees last year and vowed to make this an annual event," said Greg Cox, one of the event's organizers. "Our goal is to make this a signature family-friendly event for Raleigh that attracts thousands of car enthusiasts from all over the Southeast. By popular demand, this year's Classics at the Capital will feature more import and custom show cars."

Vendor display spaces inside the 150,000-square-foot, air-conditioned Raleigh Convention Center show floor start at just $100 and will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Indoor car display spaces are only $125 for all three days; outdoor spaces are just $40 for two days or $25 for one day. Discounts will be given for car clubs and early entry. Round-the-clock security will be provided in all areas by local law enforcement and other City of Raleigh personnel.

Classics at the Capital is proud to have as its charity partner the Foundation of Hope for Research and Treatment of Mental Illness.
