New York Bus Accident Lawyer from The Perecman Firm Comments on Bus Accident Near Sloatsberg
Eight people were injured near Sloatsberg, New York when a Trailways bus rear-ended a tractor-trailer on the New York Thruway.

NEW YORK, NY, October 30, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Last week, bus accident lawyers in New York and New Yorkers were reminded of the serious bus accidents in New York that can and do occur.

Eight people were injured when a Trailways bus bound for New York City rear-ended a tractor-trailer on the New York Thruway near Sloatsburg, New York.

"While bus accidents in New York are not as common as car accidents, they do occur frequently," said David Perecman, founder of The Perecman Firm, one of New York's bus accident law firms. "Because of the size and capacity of buses, bus accident injuries can affect a greater number of people."

The tractor-trailer driver told police that he slowed down for a car merging into traffic from a rest area. When the truck driver reduced speed, the bus hit him. The bus hit the right rear side of the trailer, crushing the driver's-side area of the bus and trapping the driver, police said.

Unlike some other recent bus accidents in New York, no serious bus accident related injuries or deaths were reported for the Trailways bus accident.

"It was lucky no one was seriously injured. If the bus had hit a car or SUV instead of a tractor-trailer, this would likely have been a fatal bus accident. A bus and a tractor-trailer are more equal in size and weight," said New York bus accident lawyer Perecman.

In March 2011, 15 people were killed when a bus carrying gamblers from a Connecticut casino to Chinatown tipped over and slammed into a metal pole, which sheared open the bus. That same month, a privately owned tour bus traveling from Chinatown crashed on the New Jersey Turnpike, killing two people.

The New York Trailways bus company has a satisfactory safety rating, as reported by LoHud.com, a Gannett Company.

An initial police investigation found no mechanical problems with the New York bus, said Sgt. John Antonelli of the state police.

The cause of the New York bus accident is still under investigation by the New York State police and Department of Transportation.

"Bus companies have a special duty to provide for passenger safety due to the vehicle size, passenger capacity and to the trust the public puts in them," said New York bus accident lawyer Perecman, a bus accident lawyer in New York for over 30 years.

According to statistics derived from the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) and the Motor Carrier Management Information System (MCMIS), in 2009 there were 485 buses were that involved in non-fatal and fatal bus accidents in New York. As a result of those bus accidents, 16 people died and 681 people were injured. Nationally, 13,417 buses were involved in non-fatal and fatal bus accidents.

New York bus accidents can be caused by a number of reasons including driver error, driver fatigue, dangerous road conditions, inadequate driver training, defective equipment, poor weather and maintenance issues. Regardless of the reason for the bus accident, New York bus accident lawyers at The Perecman Firm work hard to make sure victims of bus accidents, and their families, receive the compensation they deserve.

Bus accident lawyers in New York at The Perecman Firm will collect evidence about your bus crash, investigate all potentially responsible parties, and examine whether the bus company and driver were complying with all Federal and New York State laws.

"A bus company that compromises the safety of passengers should be held accountable," said New York bus accident lawyer Perecman.
