Officer Found Not Guilty of Assault in Sonoma County
San Francisco defense lawyer Christopher J. Shea successfully represented a former San Rafael police officer, with a jury finding finding the defendant not guilty of assault charges by a jury after two days of deliberation.

SONOMA, CA, December 09, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Former San Rafael police officer Michael Augustus was accused of assault on New Year's Eve of last year when a misunderstanding led to an altercation between him and two other men. Augustus thought one of the men was his former brother-in-law and greeted him with a gregarious gesture. The man, misunderstanding the greeting, rushed outside confronted Augustus and threatened him.

The second man rushed to the location as if to join in the imminent fight. Augustus pulled out his gun in self-defense. Confronted with the gun the two would be attackers backed down. Michael Augustus was found not guilty on December 2nd in Sonoma County. Christopher J. Shea, the San Francisco criminal attorney representing Augustus, believes this was a fair verdict as this was clearly a case of self-defense. The jury trial ended today after two days of deliberation.
